Trump labels New Mexico ‘New America’ in latest renaming move

US President Donald Trump shared a map of New Mexico with “Mexico” cut from its name, labelling it “New America”. The state’s name dates to the 16th century, predating US. The post follows Trump’s executive order renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America” amid the Canada trade war. In January 2025, he also renamed the Gulf of Mexico as “Gulf of America”.
