Why did Trump's team dump each and every Chinese gifts before leaving Beijing?

After US President Donald Trump met with Xi Jinping in Beijing, US delegation reportedly discarded all items gifted by China, including souvenirs, before departing. As per a report, the move was part of US security procedures to prevent espionage, surveillance or tracking attempts by China. Trump’s delegation left their personal phones in US and used burner phones during the visit.
