Trump signs order to cut mortgage insurance, refinancing costs

US President Donald Trump signed an order directing the housing regulator to set up a pilot programme for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to cancel mortgage insurance once borrowers have enough equity. It also expands cheaper alternatives to title insurance for refinances. Freddie Mac data show the 30-year mortgage rate averaged 7.32% this week.
