US President-elect Donald Trump has reiterated his wish to purchase Greenland and called it an "absolute necessity" to safeguard the national interests. Despite gaining autonomy from Denmark in 1979, Greenland remains reliant on Copenhagen for foreign affairs, security, and financial matters. Notably, in 1946, ex-US President Harry Truman offered Denmark $100 million in gold to purchase Greenland.
