Turkish Prez among TIME Person of the Year 2016 runners-up

The TIME magazine named Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan among its Person of the Year 2016 runners-up. The magazine said, "the President had emerged from his near-death experience stronger than ever", referring to the failed military coup in July 2016. The magazine said Erdoğan had been shortlisted as he is "attuned to the brutish mood of politics across the world".
