Two new ant species discovered in tea gardens of North East

Scientists from ZSI have identified two new ant species, Paraparatrechina sohryngkham (Meghalaya) and P ali (Assam), from tea garden soil litter. The ants display unique pinnate setae, a feature never seen in this genus, highlighting hidden biodiversity and new evolutionary traits beneath India’s agroecosystems.
