Typhoon Haikui makes landfall in Taiwan; thousands evacuated
Typhoon Haikui made landfall in eastern Taiwan on Sunday, bringing torrential rain and strong winds, the Central Weather Bureau's forecaster Yeh Chih-chun told AFP. Typhoon Haikui is believed to be the first major storm to directly hit the island in four years. Almost 4,000 people have been evacuated and more than 200 domestic flights cancelled due to the typhoon.
