Ueli Kestenholz, who won medal in snowboarding's first Olympic race, dies in avalanche

Swiss snowboarder Ueli Kestenholz, who won bronze in snowboarding's Olympic debut at the 1998 Nagano Games, has died after being caught in an avalanche in Switzerland. The 50-year-old was snowboarding with a friend who was skiing in the Lötschental Valley in Valais canton on Sunday when the avalanche struck. Kestenholz also became snowboardcross champion at the X-Games twice.
