UK cedes sovereignty of Chagos Islands back to Mauritius

UK has decided to cede the sovereignty of Chagos Islands back to Mauritius in a deal that would allow displaced people to return home. The UK has however retained a UK-US military airbase in Diego Garcia. UK, which had controlled the region since 1814, detached Chagos Islands in 1965 from Mauritius, a former colony that became independent three years later.
