UK opens 1st 'smart' prison with no window bars; inmates to be called 'residents'

The UK has opened the first "smart" prison designed with latest technology and with no bars on windows, to drive down crime and reduce reoffending. Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) Five Wells' cells will be called "rooms" and inmates "residents". The 1,700-capacity prison has been designed with education, training and jobs for prisoners on release as its main purposes, government said.
