UK to ban sale of plastic straws to tackle marine pollution

The UK has proposed to ban the sale of plastic straws, drink stirrers and plastic-stemmed cotton buds in a bid to tackle marine pollution. Calling plastic waste "one of the greatest environmental challenges", PM Theresa May said she would urge Commonwealth nations to fight against marine plastics. Nearly 8.5 billion plastic straws are thrown away in the UK every year.
