The UK will suspend student visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar and Sudan from March 26, citing a sharp rise in asylum claims made after entry on legal visas. Interior minister Shabana Mahmood said the move aims to prevent misuse of the visa system. Asylum applications from students of these countries reportedly increased more than five-fold since 2021.
