UN Chief warns AI outpacing regulation, seeks global rules

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that AI is advancing faster than regulators can keep pace, urging globally harmonised rules to reduce risks, especially for children. "Innovation needs guardrails.…If AI is to be powerful, it must be governed," Guterres said. He proposed an AI Child Safety Pledge requiring companies to prove their systems are safe before children can access them.
