UN Human Rights Council to hold special session on Myanmar crisis

The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold a special session on Friday to discuss the crisis in Myanmar after a military coup there. Julian Braithwaite, Britain's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, said that the detention of elected politicians and civilians "has grave implications for human rights in the country". This comes amid anti-coup protests in Myanmar.
