UN pauses sailor evacuation plan after cargo ship hit in Strait of Hormuz

UN’s International Maritime Organisation (IMO) paused its plans to evacuate over 11,000 sailors stranded in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran fired on a Singapore-flagged cargo ship attempting to pass through the strait. The IMO said it wants to reconfirm that proper safety guarantees remain in place. According to IMO estimates, around 600 ships are currently stranded in the region.
