Why is Africa's true size not shown on the world map?

The UN voted to replace the 450-year-old Mercator map, which visually distorts Africa's size. Africa is 14 times larger than Greenland but appears similar on current maps. Created in 1569 for European navigators, the map inflated Western nations. The Equal Earth projection, adopted by 54 African Union states, now aims to show true continental sizes.
