UNESCO removes Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City from World Heritage List
UNESCO has removed Liverpool's waterfront from its list of world heritage sites, citing concerns about overdevelopment. Tian Xuejun, chairman of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee, said, "[The] site of Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City is deleted from the World Heritage List." After Germany's Elbe Valley and Oman's Arabian Oryx Sanctuary, Liverpool is the third property to lose its status.
