Unique oil-eating bacteria found in deepest part of world's oceans
A team of international scientists has discovered a "unique" oil-eating bacteria in Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench, the deepest part of Earth's oceans at approximately 11,000 metres. These types of microorganisms eat compounds similar to those in oil and use it for fuel, a scientist said. Similar microorganisms play a role in degrading oil spills in natural disasters, the scientist added.
