UP court orders recovery of ₹20 lakh from people settling SC/ST Act cases after getting compensation

A Prayagraj court has ordered the recovery of compensation from people who settled cases filed under the SC/ST Act over minor issues to avail government benefits. Following the order, the Social Welfare Department recovered ₹20 lakh from 30 individuals. Officials said compensation is given in three instalments, but some beneficiaries took first two payments and later compromised during the trial.
