UPI MDR likely to be set at 25-30 bps, may raise ₹13,000 cr/yr: Report

The merchant discount rate (MDR) on UPI payments could return at 25-30 basis points, Moneycontrol reported, though discussions are still ongoing. Before 2020, UPI transactions attracted a 30 basis points MDR, which was later scrapped to boost digital payments. A 25 basis points fee on merchant payments above ₹2,000 could generate around ₹13,000 crore annually.
