The US State Department has approved a possible defence support package worth more than $428 million for India. It covers sustainment services for Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters and M777A2 Ultra Lightweight Howitzer artillery guns. Often called "flying tanks," the Apache helicopters are used for close air support, anti-armour missions, and precision strikes.
