US closes Consulate General in Pakistan's Peshawar citing staff safety
The US has closed its Consulate General in Pakistan's Peshawar and moved the diplomatic responsibilities for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to US Embassy in Islamabad. The closure followed the May 5 announcement, in which the US said the shutdown was to ensure its staff's safety. In March, the US ordered non-emergency government employees at its Lahore and Karachi consulates to leave Pakistan.
