US colleges may lose $3.4 billion as foreign student numbers decline: Report

A NAFSA report estimates US colleges could see 112,000 fewer international students in 2026-27, resulting in $3.4 billion in lost revenue and 40,000 fewer jobs nationwide. The number of Indian students in US fell to a 29-month low, with 338,230 students recorded in July 2026. International student enrolment is declining amid Trump’s tighter immigration policies and stricter visa processing rules.
