US considered blasting the Moon with nuclear weapons, documents reveal

A now-defunct US government agency considered nuking the Moon, newly released documents have reportedly revealed. The plan reportedly suggested blasting the lunar crust and mantle with thermonuclear weapons to find 'extremely lightweight metals' below the crust. The plan was considered by Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) which wanted to build a tunnel through the Moon.
