US declared war on terror in Afghanistan 16yrs ago post 9/11

On September 20, 2001, the then-US President George W Bush declared the 'war on terror' in Afghanistan against Taliban militants who had aided and abetted al-Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden in carrying out the 9/11 attacks. Taliban's requests for negotiations with the US were rejected and the US-led Operation Enduring Freedom began in Afghanistan.
