US denies entry to Somali referee, sends him back from Miami airport
The United States denied entry to referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, who had been expected to become the first Somali to officiate a FIFA World Cup match. The US, without naming him, said a Somali national arriving at Miami International Airport from Istanbul on Saturday was deemed inadmissible due to vetting concerns. Notably, Artan was named Africa's best referee last year.
