US dog breeder fined $35 mn for cruelty; 4,000 beagles rescued
Envigo RMS LLC, an animal breeding company, has been fined a record $35 million after 4,000 beagles were rescued from its Virginia facility in 2022. The US Department of Justice cited severe animal cruelty and environmental violations. Envigo's parent company, Inotiv, has agreed to the fine, halting dog breeding for five years and admitting to failing welfare standards.
