US grows by around 10 lakh square km, nearly twice the size of Spain

The United States' area grew by 386,000 square miles (around 10 lakh square kilometres) last month after its Department of State added six regions' submerged offshore areas to its landmass. The newly-added area, called extended continental shelf (ECS), is nearly twice the size of Spain, reports said. ECS is the area under shallow water beyond 200 nautical miles.
