US imposes 15% tariff on chip material to counter China's supply

The US on Thursday imposed a 15% tariff and price floors on imported products made from polysilicon, a raw material used in manufacturing of semiconductors and solar panels. The move is aimed at countering China's chip and solar supply chains, as polysilicon is primarily produced in the country. China said the move "seriously disrupts" trade between the two countries.
