US jobless claims rise to highest level in more than a year

The number of people filing for unemployment benefits in the US has reached its highest level in over a year, Labor Department data showed. Jobless claims for the week ended April 8 rose by 11,000 to 2,39,000 from the previous week. This figure is the highest it has been since January 2022 when 2,51,000 people filed for unemployment benefits.
