US judge approves Anthropic's $1.5 bn settlement over using books to train AI

A US judge has approved Anthropic's $1.5 billion settlement in a copyright lawsuit filed by authors who accused the company of using their books to train Claude without permission. The judge rejected claims that the payout was too small. It is the largest known settlement in a US copyright case and the first major AI training lawsuit to be settled.
