US lawmaker urges adding Chinese institutions to defense risk list

US House Select Committee Chairman John Moolenaar urged Secretary Pete Hegseth to expand the Section 1286 List by adding 14 Chinese Academy of Sciences institutes, 62 labs, 58 universities, and 22 talent recruitment programs linked to China's defense sector. He also sought a ban on China Scholarship Council-funded researchers in DoD-funded projects.
