US man, his dog die while saving man from floods amid hurricane

A man, his girlfriend and his dog had headed out on his fishing boat to rescue a man stranded by floodwaters that levelled his home in Tennessee amid Hurricane Helene. However, boat capsized and Boone McCrary and his dog died. His girlfriend held onto branch for hours before being rescued. The man Boone wanted to save called him "guardian angel".
