US Navy uses hagfish slime to make bulletproof equipment

US Navy scientists have created a synthetic version of hagfish slime that has mechanical properties similar to Kevlar, a material used for bullet proof vests. Hagfish are eel-like fish that secrete a protective viscous slime when attacked by predators. "The synthetic hagfish slime may be used for ballistics protection, firefighting, diver protection, or anti-shark spray,'' said the project lead.
