US plans to close 5 consulates, including those in Canada & Japan: Report

The US is reportedly planning to shut five of its consulates, including those in Nagoya (Japan), Medan (Indonesia), Winnipeg (Canada), an embassy in Barbados and an embassy branch office in Cameroon. Officials say some smaller foreign missions are not cost-effective. Meanwhile, China had overtaken the US in diplomatic outposts by 2024, with 274 missions worldwide compared with 271 US missions.
