US reports first-ever 'severe' human bird flu case

US reported its first "severe" human case of bird flu (H5N1) after a Louisiana resident was hospitalised in critical condition following a suspected contact with an infected backyard flock. California has declared an emergency over H5N1 infection. US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the country has reported 61 human cases of bird flu since April this year.
