US scholar arrested in Thailand for insulting monarchy

A US academic, Paul Chambers, was arrested in Thailand for allegedly insulting the monarchy and violating computer crime laws, police said on Tuesday. Chambers, a political science professor who has lived in Thailand for years, was taken to Phitsanulok Provincial Court for a pretrial detention hearing where he has denied all charges. However, a bail was not granted to him.
