US scientists announce major breakthrough in nuclear fusion

US scientists have announced the achievement of fusion ignition, a major scientific breakthrough that will pave the way for advancements in defence and clean power. On December 5, scientists conducted a controlled nuclear fusion experiment to reach the milestone, also known as the scientific energy breakeven. They produced more energy from fusion than the laser energy used to drive it.
