US Senate confirms Nicholas Burns as next China ambassador

The US Senate on Thursday backed President Biden’s nomination of Nicholas Burns as the ambassador to China, after voting 75-18 in favour of confirming the nominee. Burns served as under secretary of state between 2005 and 2008, and as a former US ambassador to NATO. It is unclear when Burns will head to China, amid tensions between both countries.
