US State Department to permanently shut Pak's Peshawar consulate

The US State Department notified the US Congress on Tuesday that it will permanently shut its Peshawar consulate in Pakistan, which was its closest diplomatic mission to Afghanistan. The department's notice reportedly told US Congress that shutting the consulate would save $7.5 million annually. The consulate employed around 18 American diplomats and other government staff along with 89 locals.
