US states seek $200 bn from Meta over allegedly addicting kids

Meta is facing a landmark federal trial after 29 US states accused the company of deliberately designing Facebook and Instagram to keep children and teenagers hooked. Prosecutors allege that Meta exploited knowledge about adolescent psychology, prioritised engagement and profits, concealed risks, and failed to protect young users adequately. The states are seeking around $200 billion in penalties.
