US takes steps to restrict AI chip exports to China-linked firms

US Department of Commerce moved to close a loophole that may have allowed advanced AI chips, including Nvidia's Blackwell processors, to reach overseas subsidiaries of Chinese firms. The new guidance requires export licences for Chinese-headquartered companies operating outside China. Hundreds of thousands of advanced chips may have been exported through the loophole, Reuters reported.
