Between September 24 and 26, 1844, the USA hosted Canada for the first international cricket match in history. About five thousand showed up for the first day's cricket and bet rampantly. The total stake in this match is estimated to be about US $100,000 (about US $4.18 million today). George Sharpe's six-wicket haul helped Canada win the game.
