The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, that proposes to give Vande Mataram the same statutory protection as the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, has been passed in Rajya Sabha. Under the bill, insults to the national song will be punishable with imprisonment up to three years, a fine, or both. It passed by a voice vote.
