Venezuela earthquake death toll rises to nearly 3,000
The death toll from the twin earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to nearly 3,000, official figures showed on Saturday. The number of fatalities increased by more than 300 from Friday to 2,954 after the 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude quakes struck the country on June 24. According to United Nations estimates, as many as 50,000 people remain unaccounted for.
