Veteran Doordarshan anchor Sarla Maheshwari, who was one of the first news anchors to read live on Indian television, has passed away at the age of 71. Doordarshan National extended a "heartfelt tribute" to her, calling her a "respected and esteemed newsreader" known for her "gentle voice, precise pronunciation, and dignified presentation." Her funeral will take place on Thursday.
