Video shows massive auroral substorm around Earth's North Pole

SMILE, a joint European-Chinese spacecraft, has released its first ultraviolet footage showing the full ring of northern lights around the North Pole. Recorded on July 24, the footage shows an auroral substorm triggered by solar wind particles disturbing Earth's magnetic field. SMILE can observe the auroral ring for up to 45 hours, helping scientists study solar activity and space weather.
