Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was UN General Assembly's 1st woman Prez

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was elected President of the eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1953, becoming the first woman to head the organ. Pandit had also headed the Indian delegation at the United Nations. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj spoke of Pandit at the UNGA on Saturday while congratulating current President María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés.
