Andhra Pradesh CM, Chandrababu Naidu Thursday announced Vijaywada as the new capital of the state. The decision faced opposition from the Sivaramakrishnan Committee, appointed by the UPA govt, which said that the Vijayawada-Guntur stretch as the capital region could cause ecological problems. However, the Naidu government took the decision considering the region as geographically central.
