Virgin Australia plane engine catches fire mid-air in New Zealand

A Virgin Australia Boeing 737-800 from Queenstown to Melbourne safely made an emergency landing in Invercargill, New Zealand, after its engine caught fire mid-air, according to the New Zealand fire service. Witnesses reported loud bangs and video footage showed flames from the engine. Virgin Australia confirmed the incident stating it possibly occurred due to a bird strike.
